How reviews of Cringley Cottage are collected, displayed and moderated.
Who can leave a review
We welcome reviews from anyone who has stayed at Cringley Cottage, and from anyone who has dealt with us about a possible stay — for example, if you contacted us with an enquiry and want to comment on how we handled it.
You must be 18 or over to leave a review.
Our commitment
We do not offer, and have never offered, anything in return for a review — no discounts, gift vouchers, free nights, upgrades, prize draws or payments of any kind. This applies to positive and negative reviews alike.
We do not commission reviews, write reviews about ourselves, or ask anyone connected with us to review the property.
How it works
We do not run our own review form. Reviews are left on the independent platforms we use:
Standards
Every review must:
Display
The reviews shown on our home page come from our Booking.com listing. The figure displayed (currently 9.4) is Booking.com's own guest review score out of 10 — it is a score, not a star rating, even though we use a star icon alongside it for visual consistency with the rest of the site.
For space reasons the home page rotates through a small selection of quoted reviews rather than showing all of them. We do not edit the wording of any review we quote — see "Using reviews in our marketing" below.
We do not hide or remove genuine reviews because we disagree with them or because they are critical.
Reviews left on Airbnb relate to stays booked through Airbnb and are shown on our Airbnb listing under Airbnb's own review rules. Reviews left on Google are shown on our Google Business Profile under Google's own review rules. We do not control or edit reviews on either platform.
Moderation
We only ask a platform to remove a review, or stop referencing it ourselves, where we reasonably believe it breaches the standards above — for example, it is fake or not based on a real experience of this property, it is abusive or unlawful, it is a duplicate, or it is actually about another business.
If we suspect a review breaches the standards, we record the reason, investigate it, and aim to reach a decision within 14 days. Where we are certain a review is non-compliant we act to have it removed as quickly as we reasonably can. Where we are unsure, we may contact the reviewer or the platform for more information before deciding.
Any review we are investigating is excluded from any figures we present ourselves. We cannot alter Google's, Airbnb's or Booking.com's own aggregate ratings — the rating and count shown on each platform continue to reflect their own systems.
If one review from a reviewer is found to be non-compliant, we may decline to reference further reviews from the same reviewer in our own marketing.
Contact
If you think a review of this property is fake or otherwise breaches the standards above, please email hello@cringleycottage.com with the reviewer's name, the platform it appears on and, if you can, the date of the review. We will acknowledge your report and tell you the outcome of our investigation.
If you disagree with a decision we have made about a review, email us at the same address and we will look into it further.
Marketing
We may quote all or part of a review in our marketing — for example on this website, on our Facebook page, or in printed material. We only use the reviewer's display name as it appears on the review platform, and we never add, remove or reword content in a way that changes its meaning.
Review of this policy
We check reviews of the property regularly and carry out an internal review of reviews at least once a year, keeping a record of our checks and of any review we act on.
This policy reflects our obligations under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 and the Competition and Markets Authority's guidance on consumer reviews.
